A restored wetland

Wetlands are one of the unsung, misunderstood heroes of the global ecosystem. They protect and facilitate flourishing of aplenty animal species, purify water, put brakes on flooding and erosion, improve the groundwater levels, and so on. Unfortunately, they are disappearing at an alarming rate, and Sweden is no exception!

Excavation and cultivation have led to around 75 percent of Sweden’s wetlands disappearing, which has contributed to around 800 species, which normally have their home there, being red-listed. It has also contributed to eutrophication of lakes and oceans. It is important to preserve wetlands and help nature recover.

Some attempts at the governmental and corporate levels are being made to restore wetlands but I doubt those are enough.
