STW C3

History
In 1940, the US imposed an export ban on war materials, therefore, Svenska Flygmotor copied the desired American P&W R-1830 star engine. This meant that all measurements had to be transferred from inches to cm and all metal goods in the engine had to be analyzed and produced in Sweden. The result was turbo-charged STW C3, perhaps produced in late 1941. It was a radial engine. STW stands for Swedish-produced Twin Wasp.
This engine was used in SAAB S18 reconnaissance aircraft active between 1946-1959.
