Old warriors

Old warriors :

(Inspiration :
The below lyrics are an outcome of a mixed feelings that keep on floating in my mind whenever I think with my parents.
Treading on our career paths,getting usurped slowly in our own paradises,many of us tend to forget our responsibilities towards our weary parents.
A weak and humble request is what I have made through the below words…
)

Just caught a bus,got a seat,paid the fare,
it’s another weekend,I have some time to spare;

It’s time to see my old man,
laying weak on sofa with bones bare;
time to be near my weary mom,
coveting weekends on every calendar stare;
(->A guy who visits his parents only on weekends,he’s elsewhere for his earnings.)

some time for a retrospect,
some moments when I contemplate;
a divine duty on it’s await,
it’s payback time,my dear mate!
(->In some empty moments,he senses his responsibilities and duties towards his parents.)

your entry punched gaps in their lives,
but they were joyfully mad;
no more a hubby-wife pair,
their fate is a pair of mom-dad;
(->These lines summarise the lifestyle of the Indian parents – wholly devoted to children,taking it up as a divine task,a long-term project.
I have even read that Western civilizations are now thinking of ‘outsourcing’ parenthood to Indian parents.)

first piercing cry,first dirty diaper,
first little word,first baby step;
first day to school,first day of teen,
first day to job,first day to split…
(->The steps in our lives which we hardly realise but our parents never forget them ! In fact, they recall it every now and then.)

Their little ones are set to shoot off the nest,
eager to touch the horizon of dreams;
swaying on a wave of gratification,
they pray for our powerful realm;
(->So many years of efforts have finally starting showing fruits,they want their children to flourish. They take pride in talking about it…)

It’s the time for an ounce of rollback,
it’s the time for two to re-unite;
time to shake off the dust,
time for two souls to re-ignite…
(Once the children have started rolling on their career paths smoothly,they can finally spend some quality time together)

Soon they sense the crouching void,
the sudden ceasefire is a surprise;
new fronts are yet to open,
deserving expectations are on rise.
(->But in most of cases,they are so used-to their children that it’s difficult for them to deal with the void that gets created.
By new fronts I mean looking ahead for the marriages,settlement issues of their children.
This is a peculiar case with those whose children leave the home for some better future…)

The roots are calling for some solace,
for little care and a bit of space;
shaking hands and blurred vision,
getting sentimental for no reason!!
(->As the span of parting from children increases – children not coming home frequently,girls getting married etc., these are
some of the emotional patterns the parents exhibit.)

It’s not a rocket you have to send,
just some time you need to spend;
Phone calls,dinners,acts of care,
Dude!hold yours,listen theirs..
(->Some simple things can work miracles,trust me !!!
The last line is particularly important – first they listened to ur crap and bumbling for years,now it’s ur turn to behave in a mature manner)

No offence people,just some feelings to share,
this phase is ahead,my words are just shooting flare;
(->we will be parents one day and grow old !!!)
Let’s get all those dreams,pleasures,careers,
but the nutrition of this fertile land,
was the blood of those old warriors…
(->Moral of the story…)

  1. 🙂 good oneWhy don't you write your comments in the same color as the background? So that when a user will select the text of your comments then only he will be able to read it. That way you will have both the flow of ur poem as well as ur comments.
