Those simple things …

This poem is a gentle reminder to all of us who forget/neglect/under-evaluate the importance of the simple things that happen in our life – life is not something that can be lived only when on a vacation! If we learn the art of appreciating and thereby,enjoying these seemingly too-simple and obvious things,allocating time for them and stop brutally sacrificing them in the scurried search of worldly pleasures all the time.

When roasted in anger or gripped by fear,
and some one listens to what you say;
when the spirit is low and the pressure sheer,
just a smiling face can make your day;

Mother’s cuisine at a friend’s place,
certainly beats a restaurant deal;
8hr sleep with no worry’s trace,
take a break and let the mind heal;

Pick a book shelved since long,
ring up the forgotten numbers;
just tune in to your beloved song,
kick yourself out of the slumbers;

Set for ramble in a cool morning,
play the sport which you have shun;
catch a road and start riding,
recline and gaze the setting sun;

The chatter of the young and dad’s lores,
pop-in to a neighbor’s place;
try to offload your mother’s chores,
then surrender to the siesta’s grace;

Dig out the old snaps
and rake up the best times –
from the teenage mishaps,
to the nursery rhymes;

Ambitions and peace are often at strife,
and to a tight rope the life clings,
in the end – the real spice of life,
are just those simple things;

  1. How true! In today's world of cut-throat competition everyone is running around and caught up in the web of life, having no time for oneself. Moreover people also tend to ignore the 'simple things' around, which can indeed bring a great deal of happiness and peace to an otherwise tumultuous life!
